European Youth Winter Olympic Festival will be held in February 2021. Now there is a chance to come along to lift the spirit of the event on Monday 10th of August 2020 at 7 p.m. in Sotkamo Hiukka (address: Tervatie 3, Sotkamo). During the evening, the program includes free sport trials for children and adults; among other things there will be ski ergo -device, hockey shooting point, snowboarding with a balance board and eco-shooting point. Furthermore, there will be held a sports quiz where the prizes are EYOF 2021 products.
“Quukkel” the mascot of EYOF 2021 Vuokatti will be visiting on the spot. Olympic-level athletes, the Mayor of Sotkamo and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mika Kilpeläinen will also pay a visit. In addition, former Olympic-level figure skater Susanna Rahkamo will be there to meet. She currently serves both the Finnish Olympic Committee and the European Olympic Committees.
Sausages are served to visitors free of charge. You are also welcome to sign up as a volunteer for the EYOF 2021 Vuokatti during the event.
On the same day between 17: 00-18: 30 at the adult learning center of Sotkamo (address. Markkinatie 1, Sotkamo) will be held a lecture open and free of charge for everybody, where there will be presented a comprehensive information package on the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival and organizing the event in Vuokatti. The lecture will also address the topic from the perspectives of athletes, Olympic education and the Olympic ideals. The lecturers are Mika Kilpeläinen, Marita Kaipainen/Secretary General of EYOF 2021 Vuokatti, Susanna Rahkamo/1st Vice Chair of the Finnish Olympic Committee, Chair of the EOC Olympic Culture & Legacy Committee, Katja Volkova/ Olympic athlete, project coordinator Road to Vuokatti 2021 and other athlete visitors. 60 people can attend the lecture. The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is a competition event for young European athletes created by the European Olympic Committees and organized under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee. The Finnish EYOF competitions will be held from 6 to 13 of February in 2021. The main stage of the competition is Vuokatti, where most of the sport events will be organised. Depending on the sport, athletes born between 2003 and 2006 can take part in the competitions. 48 European countries have confirmed their participation and about 2000 athletes are expected to attend the Games. Vuokatti will host 6 sports included in the EYOF 2021 program: alpine skiing, biathlon, snowboarding, cross country skiing, short track and figure skating, all in girls´ and boys´ categories. The ice hockey tournament will be played in Kajaani and the girls’ and boys’ ski jumping and nordic combined championships will be held in Lahti.
